 College/Department Information  The mission of the Augusta University Police Department is to promote a safe atmosphere in which the university's teaching, discovery, clinical care and service mission can be successful. This is accomplished through traditional and progressive law enforcement practices and strong community partnership. 
 Job Summary  The Police Officer position provides a professional and timely response for the detection and control of crime; Generally maintain law and order and protect life and property. 
 Responsibilities  The duties include, but are not limited to: 
-  Patrol a designated area of the University, preserve law and order, be alert for and control commission of crimes 
-  Lock and unlock buildings for faculty, students and employees; Provide escort services as needed 
-  Answer calls and/or complaints of fire or other accidents, and enforce traffic regulations 
-  Prepare necessary records and reports 
-  Assist police dispatcher as necessary 
-  Exercise quick, sound judgment and apply prescribed procedures to emergency situations; Restrain uncooperative persons 
-  Conduct investigations - collect and identify evidence, question principals and witnesses, testify in court 
-  Perform all other related duties as assigned. 
Required Qualifications Educational Requirements 
 High School Diploma, GED or equivalent from a recognized State or Federal accredited organization 
 Must be 18 years of age 
 Must have a valid driver's license 
 Must have first aid skills; possess moral and ethical character 
 Must be POST certified or be able to gain certification by POST Academy

 Ability to maintain complex records; Perform well under stress in a calm, efficient manner 
 Ability to exercise sound judgement and make responsible decisions especially decisions regarding use of force

 Pay Band: 8
 Salary: $21.83/hour - $21.91/hour 
 Salary to be commensurate with qualifications of the selected candidate within the established range (generally minimum-midpoint) of the position

5. Local, state, and federal criminal history record check 
6. Relevant national and state decertification records, if available 
7. Any relevant information in the National Law Enforcement Accountability Database 
8. Voice stress analyzer (CVSA) examination 
9. Medical examination, drug screen, and psychological examination 
10. Determination of employment eligibility, including U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services (USCIS)
11. Successfully complete POST certification requirements for a sworn police officer in the State of Georgia 
12. Perform Mandatory reporting and response duties as a Campus Security Authority (CSA) pursuant to the Clery Act
